trek letters

IMG_1994 Hope and Wil, along with over 100 other teenagers in this area are out in the wilderness somewhere today dressed like pioneers and pulling handcarts for miles. Hopefully as they re-enact for a moment what so many of our pioneer ancestors actually did and gave their lives for, they will remember what great sacrifices have been made with them in mind. I hope they will know that  they too can do hard things because surely they will have to trek through trials of their own. Earlier this week Jeremy and I sat in the office to write letters to Hope and Wil. These letters will be delivered by the pony express toward the end of their journey. We prayed before we wrote to know what they would need to hear. The impressions came quick and clear. In the reverent atmosphere it was as if the heavens parted  for a moment and I could see their pre-earth life, mortality, and eternity. I could see how valiantly they fought for our Father’s plan and what close friends they were of Jesus. I could see how prepared they were for their time on earth and the great purpose they were sent here to fulfill.  I could see their happiness in eternity from having remain faithful to the one they had fought for in the beginning. I hope they know I love them. I believe they do, but more than that I want them to remember who they truly are and who their truest friend is. That will be the only way they can get through the hard things that will come. I know my love will not be enough without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and our father in Heaven. I share this because I know this can happen to every parent as we pray in faith to behold our children. Even if you don’t have a son or daughter off trekking through a hot wilderness you can write to them today, you can let them know how you feel and what you see in them. They may be 40 or 14 but each of us wants to feel love from our parents whose love is the closest thing to the love we felt in heaven.
