I watched as kate ventured off he path to try walking across a log like her brothers. without being asked Wilson went over to her and reached out his hand to help her so she could cross safely. She was reluctant to take hold of her brothers hand at first. she probably felt she could do it on her won and wanted that satisfaction. But her pure heart prevailed and she let him guide her. recently Hope and I were talking about the holy spirit and how we receive personal revelation. I love how in the scriptures it says the spirit will come unto, not into our hearts. Ultimately, if a message from God is going to be delivered, it’s up to us to receive it.  

We are the guardians of our own hearts. We determine by the condition of our hearts if we hear the voice of the spirit, because it is a still small voice, a whisper, that comes in the way of a feeling. like Kate we can choose to be guided by the spirit, or we choose to walk alone. I believe the world we live in is far too dangerous to be without the companionship of the holy ghost. In the scriptures we learn that one of the surest ways to get a hardened heart is to have our hearts set on the things of the world “We may see at the very time when he doth prosper his people, yea, in the increase of their fields, their flocks and their herds, and in gold, and in silver, and in all manner of precious things of every kind and art … , then is the time that they do harden their hearts, and do forget the Lord their God.’ When we choose to love anything more than God and our fellowman,.. .Behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and … behold, ere he is aware, he is left unto himself.”

I love that God will never, ever force his direction, or counsel upon us. He will never shout it into our ears. He uses a whisper to voice his love for us to our hearts. Mormon wrote of the Nephites, “Their souls were filled with joy and consolation … because of their yielding their hearts unto God.

Everyday we can take the holy ghost with us wherever we go, he can become our best friend. We can learn to recognize his influence and want to be lead by him.

The holy ghost will never lead us anywhere but home to where we want to be.Not only does he guide us, he testifies of truth! In a sin sick and confusing world I love this aspect of our friendship most of ALL.

Maybe this is why we are counseled to become as a little child, whose hearts are still soft, without the hardness of sin or hurt. A child is meek and submissive. willing to reach out in times of tranquility and distress for influence and comfort of that most precious gift.
